Our story
Lár Brewery was born from a simple idea: to create a place where great beer, good food, and good company come together in the heart of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Founded by Vigdís, Baldvin Lár, and Lárus, Lár is the realization of a lifelong dream. When the opportunity arose to transform the former Klausturbleikja fishery into a brewery, we saw more than a building—we saw the chance to create something new while honoring its history.
For many years, Klausturbleikja supplied fresh fish to the local community, including our sister company, Kjarr Restaurant, just across the street. Today, the building continues its tradition of craftsmanship, only now with handcrafted beer, delicious brewpub food, and a warm welcome for locals and travellers alike.
WHY LÁR?
The name Lár is woven from three threads: Baldvin Lár, Lárus—a family name with deep roots in Kirkjubæjarklaustur—and lárviður, the laurel tree, a symbol of growth, resilience, and craftsmanship.
Inspired by the forests, lava fields, and pure Icelandic water that surround us, every beer reflects the place we call home. Pair it with one of our signature burgers, crispy wings, or other brewpub favourites, and you'll discover what Lár is all about.
